The Best Hershey’s Hot Cocoa Recipe (The One We’ve Always Made!)

“This recipe has been a family favorite for as long as I can remember, and I hope it becomes one in your home, too”

Some traditions are too good to change. Growing up, we always made Hershey’s hot cocoa, but recently, I noticed that the recipe on the back of the cocoa package is different from the one we’ve always used. So, I’m sharing the version my family has loved for years—rich, chocolatey, and absolutely perfect for cozy nights.

HERSHEY’S Perfectly Chocolate Hot Cocoa

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup sugar

• 1/4 cup HERSHEY’S Cocoa

• Dash of salt

• 1/2 cup hot water

• 8 cups milk

• 3/4 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

1. In a medium saucepan, mix the sugar, cocoa, and salt. Stir in the hot water and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Let it boil for about 2 minutes while stirring.

2. Add the milk and continue stirring until it’s heated through—but don’t let it boil!

3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. Whisk until it becomes nice and foamy.

Toppings & Serving Suggestions

The real magic happens in the toppings! I love adding:

• Whipped cream

• Caramel and chocolate syrup

• Marshmallows

• A candy cane for a peppermint twist

• Grated chocolate for an extra indulgent touch

And because all that sweetness needs a little balance, I always serve it with a side of popcorn. The salty-sweet combo is just chef’s kiss!

This recipe has been a family favorite for as long as I can remember, and I hope it becomes one in your home, too. Let me know how you like to top your hot cocoa!
