“Holz-Brücke Wooden Bridge, a covered bridge, is one of Frankenmuth’s best-known landmarks”

In 1986, while visiting my aunt near Flint, Michigan, my family took a day trip to Frankenmuth, often called “Michigan’s Little Bavaria.” Although I was young and don’t remember every detail, a few places have stayed with me over the years.

One of the first things I remember is crossing the Holz-Brücke Wooden Bridge. The covered bridge is one of Frankenmuth’s best-known landmarks and connects visitors to many of the town’s attractions. Even as a child, I remember noticing its large wooden beams and unique design.

We also spent time at Heritage Park, a public park along the Cass River. The park offers walking paths, open green space, and access to several of Frankenmuth’s historic areas. It was a nice place to slow down and explore during our visit.

Another stop was the Bavarian Inn Lodge. Its Bavarian-style architecture stood out from anything I had seen before. The building’s design and atmosphere helped make Frankenmuth feel different from other places we had visited, and it remains one of the landmarks I remember most from that trip.

Even though I only remember bits and pieces of that trip, those places have stayed with me over the years. Looking back now, it’s easy to see why Frankenmuth has remained one of Michigan’s most popular destinations for families.
