If you have kids who love airplanes or anyone in your family who enjoys history, the Air Force Armament Museum is a stop worth making. Located just outside Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, this free museum is packed with aircraft, bombs, missiles, and military history. One of the coolest parts is that many of the planes are displayed outside, and you can even drive through part of the outdoor exhibit if you prefer.

According to the museum, it is the only museum in the world dedicated to the collection, preservation, and exhibition of artifacts and memorabilia associated with Air Force armament and the aircraft that delivered them. More than 29 aircraft are on display, including an AC-130, B-17, B-25, B-52, P-51 Mustang, A-10 Thunderbolt II, F-15, F-16, and many other planes spanning from World War II to the present day.

The museum also houses hundreds of pieces of armament, including guns, bombs, missiles, and famous weapons such as the Sidewinder, Sparrow, Bunker Buster, and even the massive MOAB. Inside, visitors can watch a 32-minute film detailing the history of Eglin Air Force Base and its important role in the development of air armament.

We really enjoyed our visit and were impressed by just how much history is packed into this free attraction.
