“What’s more American than spending the Fourth of July at the ballpark?”

We often spend Independence Day with the Bowling Green Hot Rods, and it ended up being one of our favorite Fourth of July celebrations. Not only do the Hot Rods normally pull off a win, but they also put on a spectacular fireworks show set to music. It was the perfect way to celebrate the holiday.

I love baseball, and honestly, what’s more American than spending the Fourth of July at the ballpark? If you are looking for a fun family tradition, I highly recommend catching a game with the Bowling Green Hot Rods.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods are a High-A Minor League Baseball team and the primary affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. Since arriving in Bowling Green in 2009, the team has called the $28 million Bowling Green Ballpark home and has captured four championships. Their name is a nod to Bowling Green’s deep ties to the automotive industry and racing culture, including the nearby Corvette Assembly Plant.

The franchise itself dates back to 2001 when it began as the Wilmington Waves. Before settling in Bowling Green, the team spent time in Albany and Columbus, Georgia. When local fans were asked to help name the team in 2009, “Hot Rods” narrowly beat out the much more unusual runner-up, “Blind Cave Shrimp.”

Over the years, the Hot Rods have become known for their annual Fourth of July celebrations. Their Independence Day Spectacular draws some of the biggest crowds of the season and features a fireworks show that takes months to plan. In fact, holiday weekend games have brought record-breaking attendance to Bowling Green Ballpark, making it one of the most popular ways for local families to celebrate.
