World’s Largest Cedar Bucket

“The bucket originally appeared at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair”

If you enjoy unusual roadside attractions, the World’s Largest Cedar Bucket is an easy stop to add to your list. Located at Cannonsburgh Village in Murfreesboro, the oversized bucket has been drawing attention for well over a century.

Originally built in 1887 as a promotional display for the Tennessee Red Cedar Woodenworks Company, the bucket was designed to showcase the popularity and craftsmanship of cedar products made in the area. Even today, the numbers are impressive. The bucket stands nearly six feet tall, weighs 1,580 pounds, and can hold 1,573 gallons of water.

The bucket originally appeared at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair before eventually making its way back to Tennessee. Over the years, it became one of Murfreesboro’s best-known local landmarks. While the original bucket was damaged by fire in the early 2000s, it was rebuilt and remains on display today.

A visit does not take long, but it pairs well with the rest of Cannonsburgh Village, which features historic buildings, walking paths, and exhibits focused on Tennessee history and pioneer life. The bucket also makes a fun photo stop if you are exploring Middle Tennessee or looking for quick attractions near downtown Murfreesboro.

It’s a great gem out in Middle Tennessee. We stopped by in 2025.
