Columbia, known as the “Mule Capital of the World,” started Mule Day as a livestock trading event in the 19th century. Farmers and traders would gather to buy, sell, and showcase their finest mules, which were essential for farming and transportation at the time. Over the years, the event grew into a full-fledged celebration, featuring music, food, and family-friendly entertainment.

Today, Mule Day is a cherished tradition, blending history with modern festivities while still honoring the hardworking animal that played a crucial role in Tennessee’s past.

The 2023 Mule Day Parade was one for the books! Mike Wolfe, the well-known antique hunter from American Pickers, served as the Grand Marshal, leading the procession through downtown Columbia. His love for preserving history and Americana made him a fitting choice for the role.

Adding to the excitement, Miss Tennessee graced the parade with her presence, along with several cast members from the reality TV show Farmer Wants a Wife. The streets were lined with spectators as local farmers, performers, and mule-drawn wagons made their way down the route, showcasing the heart and heritage of the region.
