Haunting stories of bridges seem to exist in every corner of the country, and Kentucky is no exception. One of the most chilling tales comes from the Middle Bridge in Warren County.

The most widely told story involves a young woman who, tragically, was raped and killed in the 1950s by four men from Western Kentucky University. According to legend, if you park near the bridge on the east side, her ghost will appear, descending the hill, crossing the bridge, and approaching your car. Some say she climbs onto the hood and stares through the windshield, seemingly searching for the man who wronged her.

Another version claims she will knock on your window and ask three questions: Do you know who she is? Do you know what happened to her? Do you know who killed her? In this telling, there’s no right answer—she ends up pushing the car off the bridge regardless.

The bridge sits on an extremely curvy road, so whether you’re a skeptic or a believer, caution is advised when driving near it.
